Project Date: 2020-21
Medium: Recycled pulp, cardboard, and yarn
Say hello to the paper planters! Made from papier mâché, these
vessels are designed to be a little ‘extra’. Often times, planters are just
dirt containers. These pieces are an extension of the plant – like a body for a
sassy golem. The tall loop is a neck for the ivy to rest on; the wide handles express
the little tree’s impatience, “ugh, water please.”
What’s inside?
These vessels are almost entirely made of recycled materials.
The interior has a cardboard structure, while the exterior is plastered in
recycled paper pulp mixed with yarn scraps – lending the piece its unique ‘Fruity
Pebbles’ finish. With a few dollops of neon paint, the surface is then sealed
with varnish to protect the paper construction from water.
Eyes and toes.
The painted ends add a splash of surprise. The plants want
to be greeted – pick them up and give them a hug! Enjoy their new clothes from
all angles.
Shapes and sizes.
Who’s to say planters need to be centered around one root
ball? These two fellas play with elevation and stretching the container, making
room for extra guests.
